My thoughts on America’s Best Dance Crew

20 03 2008

(Most of what I say has been already said in past conversations with other people, and i get kinda mean, but its all love for dancing)

J.C sucks

Lil Mama sucks but she’s ghetto so she has somewhat of a say

Shane Sparx sux alot since he kinda sold out long ago but he’s a choreographer in the  industry and this competition is kinda his scene so he gets some respect for that.

The dancers though, are awesome. Esp Jabbawockeez, yea, they’re going to win.  People have been asking me who I think should win and obviously I say Jabba, but i tell them why also. The thing is about them is take away their choreography and their team and look at them individually, they can still kick ass. All of them are really good freestylers. Something Ceech (my dance teacher) always says is you gotta be both. Be good in freestyle and choreography and that will make you a great dancer.

I used to love Kaba back in the day. BUT, as a dancer now I have more experience and know what to look for when I see someone performing, so prepare for some bashing right now: Can someone from Kaba freestyle? Ok wait, I take that back, can someone from Kaba freestyle well? All i see is bad waving, bad locking, bad wacking, bad bboying. To be fair, they do choreo and thats why their so high up in this competition. Not to bash on them too much tho, I think one of their girls is cute (Yuri)  and their attempt at locking and tutting is noticed =P

I’d love to see  a battle portion of the competition! I mean, come on, your gonna call this show “America’s Best Dance Crew” and all they do is choreography?? I know it won’t happen because half the teams can’t freestyle but I think it would be pretty sick, definitely offer something new instead of themes like broadway. Ughh..

Lets talk about that crap too: Broadway theme? Oh come on Randy Jackson and you’re stupid creative staff. The Michael Jackson theme was cool coz its still hip hop, different styles mixed in and a different time. Even the new idea of bringing dance moves throughout hip hop is a decent idea, but BROADWAY? wow, how about Salsa? Ballet? or Lyrical? hahah, yea, that’d be funny- actually lots of teams do lyrical in their performance if you can catch it.  Sux for Iconic, Broadway/Hip-Hop was their thing =P I think they definitely made a mistake on their part. Challenge the dancers yes, but something where they can make it more entertaining than the last show, coz man, that MJ show was their best and the broadway one was probably their worst.

Ok, JC bashing time:

What are you wearing dude? Everyone’s saying that you’re dressed like how you were with Nsync but that crap doesnt work when you’re by yourself! Look in a mirror man, you look so nerdy and preppy at a hip hop show?!?! I know you’re not gangsta like Lil Mama or S. Sparx  (lol?) but wear a hat or just a shirt, even some type of suit wear might work for you. Its bad enough as it is that your opinion doesnt count but your threads are just all re-affirming that you don’t belong there. At least try man haha.

Someone says it looks like he just reads from a teleprompter haha, I don’t doubt it at all. He always says the same crap:

Mario: JC, what do you think

JC: Uhhhh, yea…lets go back to that slo mo ….

JC: Ummm, yea  that move was called the  (insert new technique)…

JC: (Say something pretty obvious, then say something negative even if they were tight because I want to sound like a judge).

Shane Sparx: Yea, i dont agree with J.C

Lil Mama: Me neither
Now tell me you haven’t seen that! hahaha I think the last time he said something to Kaba after their Grease performance was like:  “You know what you guys did really well? You understood the concept of Grease and  made your performance a couples routine just like Grease.” Wow JC, no duh… can’t think of something more intelligent to say? Just ask Shane to write you some notes dude, seriously. And the move is “which-a-way,” not “whichway” you idiot. I’m mad because its a locking move and it happens to be my favorite. This also confirms you don’t know anything. I think Joey Fatone would be a little better, after all he was on Dancing with the Stars so at least he would have more to say, plus he’s a star wars fan and thats awesome.

With all those annoyances I still enjoy the show and watch it whenever it comes on (i vote for Jabba too) because its probably the closest show we have at the moment that comes close to the dance scene Im in. And Lyn says this too: where else have you seen so many asians at one time on tv (non-asian channels)? And doing well! Esp, how many filipinos ? Jabba (on the show) has like 3-4 of em. Tight!

Bboy Hodown

6 12 2007

Im exhausted from all of these practices for hodown but its going to be worth it. I think John and I have a pretty good shot at the winner’s title. If anything, our duos are going to be amazing. I hope i can get this recorded…

First DS Players Performance this season

7 10 2007

Yup, season 3 just got started: 1st performance was a success for both DSP and Triple Threat (me, romy and brian of dsp).

Top things to remember: thanks for Rebecca1 for the safety pins, Romy being told 3 times that we’re leaving subway to perform yet only understands the 4th time, getting the best compliment about my performance skill, Roland’s jokes about work, emmy’s confession of having 3 lvl 60s in WOW, and seeing some old friends at today’s battle (and finding out Rebecca1 went to HS with her).

Good day, tomorrow, wedding performance where we get pizzzaid.

peace,

mike

Freestyle Session Review

29 08 2007

Freestyle Session was pretty dope. Even tho this time it was just me and John, i had a blast. The lockin was awesome, Machines Gone Funk were sick, and just gettin down with all the other funk stylists was inspiring. Usually when i attend these events i only know the dancers from the Bay, but thanks to john introducing me to everyone as part of DS Players, i now have 5 more myspace friends haha. The only thing that really sucked this weekend was spending lots of money. Each day at the event was $40, plus lunch, plus drink, then $20 extra to bring in my camera. Pretty wack honestly, but i did get to take a pic w/ DJ Batsu, the most awesomest DJ in Japan.
